Indications/Uses
Reduction of elevated IOP in patients w/ open-angle glaucoma or ocular HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 drop (1.5 mcg) in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to latanoprost & benzalkonium Cl.
Special Precautions
Dose should not exceed once daily. In combination use of 2 or more prostaglandins or prostaglandin analogs. If more than 1 ophth drug is being used, the drugs should be administered at least 5 min apart. History of intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis), active intraocular inflammation; aphakic or pseudophakic patients, torn posterior lens capsule, patients who do not have an intact posterior capsule or w/ known risk factors for macular edema; use as treatment of angle closure, inflammatory or neovascular glaucoma; concurrent corneal disease or disruption of the ocular epithelial surface. Remove contact lenses prior to the administration & may be reinserted 15 min after administration. Increased brown pigmentation of the iris may occur. Avoid the tip of the dispensing container to contact the eye or surrounding structures because of contamination which may cause ocular infections. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Asthma & exacerbation of asthma; corneal edema & erosions; dyspnea; eyelash & vellus hair changes (increased length, thickness, pigmentation & number); eyelid skin darkening; herpes keratitis; intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis); keratitis; macular edema including cystoid macular edema; misdirected eyelashes sometimes resulting in eye irritation; dizziness, headache & toxic epidermal necrolysis, periorbital & lid changes resulting in deepening of the eyelid sulcus.
Drug Interactions
Precipitation occurs w/ eye drops containing thimerosal.
